Origin and history

Chavigné Castle is located in the commune of Brion, in the department of Maine-et-Loire (Pays de la Loire). The current building, built in 1805, replaces an older structure whose remains a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame, erected in 1670 and classified in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments (ISMH). This 17th century chapel bears witness to the more distant origin of the estate.

The 18th century architectural style of the castle features a symmetrical facade with a ground floor, a square floor and a mansard floor. A right wing, contemporary of the main body, balances the composition with the existing chapel. The ensemble illustrates a transition between the eras, mixing 17th century heritage and early 19th century reconstruction.

The building has been officially listed as historic monuments since 1986, recognizing its heritage value. The chapel (cadastre G 799) is the only element protected by this decree. The available sources, such as the Merimée or Monumentum base, confirm its territorial anchoring in the woods of Anjou, between Angers and the historical region of Anjou.

The site, although located with an accuracy considered "very satisfactory" (note 8/10), does not reveal in the documents consulted information on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation). Its history thus remains mainly related to its architecture and heritage protection, without mentioning specific owners or events.
