Origin and history

Chevrières Castle is a building built during the 2nd quarter of the 16th century. It is located in the commune of Chevrières, in the Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument is representative of Renaissance architecture, a period marked by social and cultural transformations in France, especially in rural areas where castles often served as residences for local lords or administrative centres for surrounding lands.

Ranked as historical monuments since October 5, 1964, Chevrières Castle includes remarkable elements such as the facades and roofs of the two towers and the gate constituting the entrance poterne. A medallion decorated with a female bust framed by two dolphins, located in the courtyard, is also part of the protected elements. This ranking reflects the heritage importance of the site, both for its architecture and its historical role in the region.

The castles of that time were often symbols of power and prestige, while playing a central role in the economic and social organization of rural territories.
