Origin and history
The Château de Courcelles was built in 1713 by Charles Joseph de Courcelles, as evidenced by his first mention in 1716 on a plan by Nicolas Duchêne. This document attests that the castle then belonged to Monsieur de Courcelles, thus confirming its family origin and territorial anchoring in Montigny-lès-Metz.
Following Charles Joseph de Courcelles, the castle was passed on to his daughter, Barbe de Courcelles, who inherited it. This transmission illustrates the durability of the property within the same family line, typical of the estate practices of the then aristocracy.
The castle and its central park were classified, while the side parts of the park were listed by order of 15 September 1950. This official protection underscores the heritage value of the site, both for its architecture and for its landscape environment, as part of the Moselle listed sites.
