Origin and history
Cuy Castle, formerly called Cui Castle, is a 17th-century building located in the commune of Occagnes, in the department of Orne. It is 100 metres south of the church of Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais de Cui, an integrated hamlet in Occagnes in 1839. This castle, built in the middle of the seventeenth century, illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of this period in Normandy.
In 1809, the castle was sold by Count Nicolas d'Orglandes, marking a transition in its history. Its facades, roofs and entrance gates were listed as historical monuments by order of 14 December 1936, recognizing their heritage value. This classification protects iconic architectural elements of the building.
The castle of Cuy is part of the landscape of the castles of Orne, where these buildings often reflected the power and influence of the local noble families. Today, there is still evidence of this architectural and historical heritage, although its current access and uses are not specified in the available sources.
