Origin and history
The Château de Désaignes is a medieval building located in the municipality of the same name, in Ardèche. Built in the 14th century, it is distinguished by architectural elements typical of the era, such as a staircase, a chapel and monumental chimneys. These features make it a representative example of the strong castles of this period, designed for both defence and seigneurial life.
The castle now houses a municipal museum, which traces the history of the village through its major events. This museum, housed in the historic walls of the castle, allows to discover the local heritage and evolution of Désaignes over the centuries. The building was classified as historic monuments in 1933, recognizing its heritage value.
Among the protected elements are a wrought iron gate located on the south-west façade, classified by order of 27 January 1933. This architectural detail, as well as the other components of the castle, testify to the historical and cultural importance of the site. The castle is now owned by the municipality and plays a central role in local life, whether for visits, exhibitions or cultural events.
