Origin and history
Draëck Castle is a building located in the commune of Zutkerque, in the department of Pas-de-Calais, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although its exact period of construction is not specified, it is closely associated with the history of the local nobility, especially in the eighteenth century.
In 1771 Marie-Cécile-Charlotte de Lauretan became Baroness de Draëck by his marriage to Damoral de Draëck, a twenty-year-old man his eldest. Passionate about hunting and veneration, it is distinguished by its cynegic exploits, notably by killing 767 wolves in the forest of Eperlecques with its pack. These performances earned him evocative nicknames such as "La Dame aux loups", "La Diane de Brédenarde" or "La grande louvetière du Pas-de-Calais".
The history of the castle remains mainly marked by this emblematic figure, whose reputation transcends local borders. The architectural details or other historical periods of the monument are not documented in the available sources, leaving a mystery on its evolution before and after the eighteenth century.
