Origin and history

The Château de Galié is a medieval building located in the commune of Galié, Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. Built between the late 13th and early 14th centuries, it belonged to the Châtellenie de Fronsac. This castle, today in ruins, was characterized by irregular bellows walls reinforced by assembled granite chains. The murderers were framed by similar blocks, and the south facade had a crenelated rectangular wall overlooking the courtine.

The defensive structure of the Galié castle was typical of the Pyrenean fortifications of the time, without a corner tower. The south courtine extended eastward to a poterne, while the other parts of the enclosure probably served as a career for the inhabitants of the village. The site was listed as a historical monument by decree of 23 November 1970, although it is now a private property.

The village of Galié, integrated with the Châtellenie de Fronsac, illustrates the strategic importance of castles in the Pyrenees at this time. These fortifications were used to control territories and protect local populations, often organized around lords or feudal structures. The castle of Galié, although partially destroyed, remains an architectural testimony of this troubled time, marked by local conflicts and increased defensive needs.
