Origin and history
The Château de Grésillon, located in Baugé-en-Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), is a 19th-century building (1585-1882) transformed into a Cultural House of Esperanto since 1952. It is 250 km from Paris, between Angers, Le Mans and Tours. The site has been occupied since prehistory, as evidenced by the Neolithic dolmen of Pierre Couverte, a listed historical monument, located a few hundred meters from the castle.
The castle was acquired thanks to an international subscription from Esperantistoj, grouped within the association Kulturdomo de Franclandaj Esperantistoj, founded in 1951 by Henri Micard. Since then, it has hosted cultural and linguistic stays, mainly during school holidays, with intensive internships, conferences and family activities. The venue also serves as accommodation for private groups and events, such as preparations for the International Mathematical Olympiads (2007-2011).
Current activities include recurrent internships such as PRINTEMpaS (April, intensive courses), Maratona sta The castle also offers knowledge exchanges and choral workshops (INTERKANT). These meetings, often weekly, attract participants from around the world, strengthening its role as an Esperantophone cultural centre.
The estate thus combines historical heritage – with its neolithic traces – and contemporary educational mission, centered on the international language. Its operation is based on an associative and voluntary model, focusing on cultural openness and intergenerational exchange.
