Origin and history

The château de Hauterives was built in the 17th century, after the collapse of an old castle around 1650. It stands on the left bank of the Galaure, in the village of the same name, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its park is home to a three-century-high, 35-metre-high Lebanese cedar, reflecting its landscape history.

In the spring of 2024, the castle experienced a structural crisis, requiring the installation of beams to support its exterior walls and avoid a collapse. This monument, now a communal property, now hosts temporary exhibitions in rooms decorated with 17th century woodwork and 18th century stucco mouldings.

Located near the Ideal Palace of the Horse Factor, the castle is located in the natural region of the Drôme des Collines. Its architecture and local history make it an emblematic place, linked to both the built heritage and the cultural life of Hauterives.
