Origin and history
The Château de l'Épine in Warluis succeeds a medieval castle with a tower and turret to the south and east. These remains are the only testimonies of the original building. From this base, the house has undergone three major phases of transformation, reflecting architectural changes and the needs of its occupants over the centuries.
East wing, characteristic of the seventeenth century, marks the first major modification of the castle. A staircase of Louis XV style, decorated with a wrought iron ramp, was integrated into the old medieval body, illustrating the influence of the decorative arts of that time. These additions demonstrate a desire for modernisation while preserving older elements, creating dialogue between periods.
In the first quarter of the 19th century, the castle underwent a new campaign of construction: a westward expansion, the creation of two forebodys, and the addition of a floor of the building. At the same time, two outbuildings (a shed and a dwelling) were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The chapel, dating from the 16th century, remains intact, offering a contrast with the more recent parts.
The estate, including the castle, its facades, roofs, the Louis XV staircase, the medieval tower, outbuildings and the chapel, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 12 March 2012. This protection recognizes the heritage value of a hybrid architectural ensemble, where six centuries of history and style overlap.
The available contact information places the castle at 986 Rue du Montois in Warluis, in the department of L'Oise (60), in the Hauts-de-France region. Although the practical information on visits or services (rental, guest rooms) is not specified in the sources, its registration as a Historical Monument makes it a remarkable site of local heritage.
