Origin and history

Château de la Bouleaunière, also known as La Bouleaunière, is a building located in the municipality of Grez-sur-Loing, Seine-et-Marne. Isolated to the south of the hamlet of Hulay, it is accessible by the departmental road 607. This place is marked by its geographical isolation, away from the centre of the village, making it a peaceful and removed site.

The estate belonged to a certain Berny and was occupied around 1840 by the writer Honoré de Balzac, friend of the owner. It was in this castle that Balzac wrote Ursule Mirouët, a work whose scenes take place in the nearby town of Nemours. This stay illustrates the author's attachment to this place, which is conducive to literary inspiration.

Although little information is available on its architecture or evolution, Château de la Bouleaunière remains a testament to the local heritage, linked to 19th century cultural and literary life. Its history is closely associated with the figure of Balzac, making it an emblematic place for lovers of French literature.
