Origin and history
The Château de la Brisette is an 18th-century residence located in the Cotentin, on the town of Saint-Germain-de-Tournebut (Manche, Normandy). Built in a classic form with a pilaster central pavilion and triangular pediment, it is flanked by two side pavilions. At the back, its façade is reflected in an artificial pond, while a courtyard with commons, dated 1769, completes the whole. These secondary buildings seem to be behind the main body of the castle.
The facades and roofs of the castle, communes and chapel have been protected since 16 April 1975 by an inscription as historical monuments. This classification underscores its architectural and heritage interest, typical of the seigneurial or bourgeois residences of the eighteenth century in Normandy. The date of 1769, engraved on the communes, suggests a late construction or renovation in relation to the castle itself.
The site is part of a Normandy rural landscape, 1.2 km northwest of Saint-Germain Church. Its architecture, marked by neoclassical elements like the carved pediment, reflects the stylistic influences of the era. The square pavilions surrounding the entrance to the court add a symmetry characteristic of the dwellings of this period.
