Origin and history

Château de la Chevalerie is an 18th-century building located in the commune of Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine, in the canton of Luçon, in Vendée ( Pays de la Loire). This monument, inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1989, is distinguished by its architecture characteristic of this period, as well as by its dependencies that complete the whole estate. The inscriptions on the site evoke a link with the Templars, adding a historical and mysterious dimension to this castle.

The first certified owner of the castle is Abraham-François Chevallereau, whose name is associated with the history of the estate. Although the details of its construction and transformations remain partially documented, the castle is now recognized as a significant heritage element of the Vendée. It is one of the listed castles in the region, and its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments underlines its architectural and cultural importance.

Available sources, including Guy de Raigniac's references in De châteaux en logis (1993), as well as databases such as Mérimée, confirm his status as a protected monument. The domain, located at Address 1 Route des Mottes, is located with an accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 7/10). Although the information on its accessibility (visits, rentals) is not detailed in the sources, its official registration makes it a site of interest for the study of the vendean heritage.
