Origin and history
The Château de la Coudraie-Noyers, classified as a Historical Monument, finds its origins in the 15th and 16th centuries, although its structure was profoundly altered in the 17th century. Originally, its eastern facade was to be flanked by two symmetrical towers, now missing, responding to those still visible on the opposite side. Architectural changes include brick walls added in 1848 by weaver workers of the Cholet factories, integrated into the round paths of existing towers.
To the north of the castle remain the traces of a French garden, characterized by a terrace bordering a water room. This landscape, typical of the aristocratic residences of the 17th and 18th centuries, reflects the evolution of aesthetic tastes and social practices of the period. The facades, roofs, as well as the water room and the remains of the garden were protected by a registration order of 6 September 1943, highlighting their heritage value.
The site, located in Mauléon (Deux-Sèvres), in the former Poitou-Charentes region (now Nouvelle-Aquitaine), reflects local historical dynamics, notably related to the 19th century textile industry. Its approximate address, 53 La Coudraie Noyer, and its Insee code (79079) confirm its territorial anchor. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 5/10), depending on available sources.
