Origin and history
The Creuse Castle, located in Portet-sur-Garonne in Haute-Garonne, is an emblematic monument of the 16th and 18th centuries. It combines Renaissance architectural elements, such as its turrets with archaic roofs, with local brick and pebble construction techniques, typical of the garon plains. The facade, a classic ordinance, is distinguished by its stone cladding doors and windows, designed to accommodate hinges.
The house is associated with General Ritay, Baron of the Empire, although its construction or major transformation dates back to 1585, attributed to Guillaume Mestre. The side walls are alternating brick and pebbly seats, a traditional method of the region. Ranked a Historic Monument in 1979 for its facades and roofs, the castle illustrates the architectural evolution between Renaissance and classical times.
The site, now located at 2 Chemin de Vigoulet Auzil, retains a geographical accuracy deemed satisfactory (note 7/10). Although the practical information on current visits or services is lacking, its registration as a Historical Monument makes it a protected heritage, witness to the constructive techniques and stylistic influences of the Garonne throughout the centuries.
