Origin and history
The Château de la Ferté, located in the commune of Reuilly in the department of Indre (region Centre-Val de Loire), is a building of the 3rd quarter of the 17th century. Its construction began in 1656 under the direction of architect François Mansart, known for his major influence in French classical architecture. The castle, sometimes called La Ferté-(sous)-Reuilly or formerly La Ferté-Gilbert, illustrates the architectural style in vogue during the reign of Louis XIV, mixing geometric rigor and elegance.
The monument was the subject of several protections for historical monuments: a first inscription in 1944, followed by a second in 1967, then a partial classification in 1986. The latter includes moat formed by the Theols River and part of the bridge crossing the river. These hydrological elements, integrated with architecture, underline the strategic and aesthetic importance of the ditches in the castles of this time.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, also mention a specific address (5961 Château de la Ferte, 36260 Reuilly) and a location deemed satisfactory (note 7/10). Although the text does not specify its current use (visits, events, accommodation), its status as a protected monument makes it a major local heritage, witness to the architectural and social history of the Centre-Val de Loire region in the 17th century.
