Origin and history

The Château de la Pilule, erected in 1931 at Saint-Quentin, embodies an architectural mix between neo-classicism and neo-XVIII century. This monument reflects the industrial development of the city, which enjoyed notable prosperity from the 19th century until the 1960s. Its neat architecture, with various facades and a designed park, illustrates the revival of the regular gardens in the 1930s, while integrating into an urban setting marked by local textile and mechanical activity.

The castle is located in the heart of a two-hectare park, combining green spaces and modern residences like Domities. Its eleven luxury rooms, seminar rooms and large hall make it today a versatile place, combining historical heritage and contemporary uses. Ranked a Historic Monument in 2014, it also bears witness to the expertise of architects Barbotin, Jacques (architect) and André (engineer), who marked his design.

The listing of the castle in the Inventory of Historic Monuments in 2014 covers the entire building (cadastre BO 129), highlighting its heritage importance. Its address, 110 avenue de la République, places the building in a central district of Saint-Quentin, emblematic city of Aisne en Picardie (now Hauts-de-France). The accuracy of its location remains moderate (level 5/10), possibly reflecting necessary mapping adjustments.
