Origin and history

The Château de la Tour-de-Naintré, located in the town of Naintré (Department of Vienna, New Aquitaine region), is a building whose origins date back to the 4th quarter of the 14th century, with major changes in the 4th quarter of the 16th century. Its facades, roofs, moats and doves were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 12 July 1973, attesting to its heritage importance. The site is located at 4 Rue de la Tour, according to the coordinates recorded in the Merimée base.

The accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 4/10), but its administrative address and Insee code (86174) clearly links it to the former Poitou-Charentes region, which is now integrated into New Aquitaine. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation), detailed history or successive owners. Sources are limited to Monumentum data and the internal archives of the Merimée database.

The protected elements of the castle — the facades, roofs, moats and pigeons — reflect a defensive and seigneurial architecture typical of the medieval and Renaissance periods. The dovecote, in particular, emphasizes the high social status of the occupants, reserving this work to the aristocracy or to the affluent bourgeoisie. No mention shall be made of major historical events related to the site, or of significant persons associated with its construction or use.
