Origin and history

Lauret Castle is a building located in the municipality of Sainte-Gemme, in the Gers department in Occitanie region. This castle, probably dating back to a medieval building surrounded by moat, has evolved over the centuries to become an emblematic home of the region. Its foundations are based on wooden pillars and stone bases, while its basement houses storage silos dating back to an ancient era.

The castle belonged successively to the families Lautrec, Percin and Castelbajac, with transmissions mainly by marriage since the fourteenth century. Today he remains occupied by the descendants of these families. A brick quadrangular tower, accompanied by commons, completes the architectural ensemble. The castle, including its moats and a drinking-pot located in the courtyard, was listed as historic monuments by order of 1 April 1993.

Among the personalities related to the castle, Claire de Castelbajac (1953-1975), nicknamed "God's servant", is notable. His cause for beatification is currently underway in the Vatican. This monument thus illustrates both local history and a broader spiritual dimension.
