Charles le Chauve - King of the Franks (IXth century) Confirm the fief in a charter

Origin and history

The Château de Louy, located in the commune of Restigné in the Centre-Val de Loire region, finds its origins in an ancient fief attested since the 9th century. A charter of Charles le Chauve, dated from that time, confirms the possessions of the collegiate Saint-Marau, including this territory. This medieval past contrasts with the present architectural ensemble, entirely rebuilt in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries without further major alteration.

Access to the estate is via a south gate in the middle of the hangar, opening onto a courtyard closed by three buildings. The main house, facing north, consists of a central body flanked by two protruding pavilions, framed by square towers. In the east and west, commons with interlocking roofs complete the whole, while a rectangular chapel, with a dome bell tower, marks the northeast corner. This regular plan, typical of the classical era, reflects a hierarchical spatial organization.

On 7 March 1975, Louy Castle was listed as a historic monument and owes its protection to the remarkable preservation of its facades, roofs and southern gate. The protected elements, listed under cadastral reference F 219, illustrate a preserved architectural heritage, where are mixed residential, religious (via chapel) and agricultural (common) functions. The absence of major transformations since its construction makes it an intact witness to the seigneurial residences of Touraine.
