Origin and history

The Château de Masse is a building located in Corcelles-les-Arts, in the Côte-d'Or department, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. It is located on the edge of the departmental road 143b, at the exit of the village of Masse, on the road leading to Corcelles-les-Arts. The architectural complex is organized around a central courtyard, encircled by walls in exposed stone bellows, and accessible by a stone porch covered with flat tiles. This porch, with a full-angle carriageway door and two side pedestrian doors, gives access to a courtyard surrounded by two bodies of symmetrical buildings: one to the west, intended for housing, and the other to the east, serving as wine cellar.

The buildings, with a rectangular plan, include a ground floor and two floors, one of which is high. Their hipped roofs, covered with flat tiles, are pierced with triangular pediments with fins. The walls of the cellar are made of visible stone bellows, while those of the house are coated. At the back of the courtyard, a large agricultural building completes the whole, with a similar implementation. The Château de Masse is part of a 3 hectare wine farm in the Côte de Beaune, a region renowned for its wines.

Masse Castle is listed in the additional inventory of historical monuments, highlighting its heritage interest. Although its precise history is not detailed in the available sources, its architecture and integration into a winery illustrate the link between built heritage and local economic activity. The Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, and more particularly the Côte d'Or, is marked by a strong wine tradition, where castles and estates often play a central role in the production and valorisation of wines.
