Origin and history

The castle of Moissey, located in the commune of the same name in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a building whose origins date back to the sixteenth century, with major transformations carried out in the fourth quarter of the seventeenth century. This monument illustrates the defensive and residential architecture of its time, marked by elements such as moat and towers still visible today. Its facades and roofs, as well as three old towers (East and North) and moats, were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 24 July 1985, highlighting their heritage value.

The location of the castle, in Moissey (Jura), in the former Franche-Comté region, reflects its anchoring in a territory marked by feudal and then rural history. The castles of this period often served as seigneurial residences while playing a role in the local organization, between protection, administration and symbol of power. Although the sources do not specify its exact use over the centuries, its architecture and legal protection testify to its historical and cultural importance.
