Origin and history
The castle of Montmarin was built in the 17th century at the site of an ancient building called the Tuaudière. Its architecture reflects the classic cannons of the time, with a central body framed by two pavilions and a rectangular courtyard bounded by commons and a chapel. The austere facades, typical of the seventeenth century, contrast with the interior woodwork, some of which, dated from the eighteenth century, would come from the nearby castle of the Radrets. The courtyard, closed to the northeast by 19th century communes, also includes two pavilions and a contemporary chapel of the castle.
Protected elements include facades, roofs, chapel, dovecote, as well as woodwork and interior staircases with wooden balusters. A fireplace in the small living room is also classified. The estate, complemented by a gateway, is now owned by a private company. The inscription to the Historical Monuments dates from September 17, 1986, covering specific parts of the castle and its outbuildings.
The Château de Montmarin illustrates the architectural evolution between the 17th and 19th centuries, mixing old structures with more recent additions such as the commons. Its dovecote, although in uncertain times, bears witness to the agricultural and seigneurial functions traditionally associated with this type of domain. The location, in the Loir-et-Cher, makes it a representative example of the castral heritage of the region Centre-Val de Loire.
