Origin and history
The Château de Montrevel is an old fortified house built between the 15th and 17th centuries, located in the valley of Hien, at the entrance of the commune of Montrevel (Isère). Originally known as the "Château du Mill", it illustrates the defensive and residential architecture of this period, with a body of "L" houses and agricultural outbuildings covered with scale tiles. Its facades and roofs, as well as those of its barn, were partially classified as historical monuments by order of 6 October 1977.
The estate extends between the village of Montrevel and that of Biol, near the motorway linking Grenoble to Lyon. Although private property and closed to the visit, the castle remains visible from an adjacent road. Its access is marked by an entrance gate, and the nearest stations (Chabons and La Tour-du-Pin) are less than 10 km away. The building combines molasses-shaped sled windows and arcades, characteristic of the strong houses of the region.
The building of the castle dates mainly from the 16th century, with subsequent modifications. Its inscription in the historical monuments in 1977 specifically concerns the facades and roofs of the main house and the barn (cadastre AB 29). Today, the site retains a heritage role in the local landscape, while remaining a private place. No information is available on any historic owners or significant events that took place there.
