Origin and history

Neuville-en-Verdunois Castle is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Meuse (55), in the Grand Est region. Built mainly during the second half of the 16th century, it underwent notable modifications in the 18th century. Its facades and roofs, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 19 August 1975, testify to its architectural and heritage importance.

The location of the castle, at the approximate address of 2 Rue de la Mairie, is considered satisfactory (note of 8/10 for accuracy). This type of monument, typical of the Lorrain and Champagne countryside, often reflects the evolution of the lifestyles of local elites between Renaissance and the Enlightenment century. The castles of this period served as both a seigneurial residence, a symbol of power, and sometimes a place of agricultural or judicial management for the surrounding territories.
