Origin and history

The Château de Poncenat is a building located in Montaigu-le-Blin, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built on a natural terrace, it was once surrounded by marshes and ponds, which reinforced its defensive character. Today, there is only a semicircular tower, some walls and part of the entrance porch, remains of the last works.

By the end of the 16th century, the castle was already in ruins. It was rebuilt in the 17th century, but was dismantled after the French Revolution. These successive transformations reflect the architectural and political developments of the region, marked by periods of conflict and reconstruction.

The site, although partially destroyed, bears witness to the local history and the strategic importance of the castles in Bourbonnais. Its location 2.5 km south-west of the village of Montaigu-le-Blin makes it an element of the rural heritage of the Allier, linked to the feudal organization and then post-revolutionary of the region.
