Origin and history
The Château de Quérezieux is a historical monument located in the commune of Écotay-l'Olme, in the Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This castle, whose protected elements include facades, roofs, entrance hall, staircase, several living rooms, chapel, communes, library and park, was inscribed by ministerial decree on 22 January 1990. Its architecture and dependencies reflect a significant architectural and landscape heritage, although its detailed history is not explicitly documented in available sources.
Monuments of this type, often linked to the aristocracy or the local bourgeoisie, played a central role in the social and economic organization of rural territories. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, an area marked by an industrial and agricultural history, castles were frequently used as seigneurial residences or as places for managing estates. Their preservation, like that of the castle of Quérezieux, allows today to bear witness to the ways of life and social hierarchies of past times.
