Origin and history

The castle of Quesnoy-sur-Airaines, classified as Historic Monument, is distinguished by its brick house body dated 1682, as evidenced by the wrought iron anchors. This central building is framed by two stone wings, built in the 18th century, forming an ensemble in return of square on the courtyard. The rear façade, overlooking the park, features an imposing protruding rotunda, topped by a dome, a remarkable architectural element of this period.

From the former seigneurial farm associated with the castle, there remains only one stone stable, dated 1768 thanks to its anchors. This stable, along with the facades and roofs of the castle and a cooler, was protected by a registration order in 1993. The estate, now owned by a private company, illustrates the architectural evolution between the 17th and 18th centuries, mixing brick and stone.

The castle embodies the rural aristocratic heritage of the Hauts-de-France, where seigneurial residences played a central role in the local social and economic organization. These buildings served both as a place of power, residence and administrative centre for the surrounding lands, reflecting the hierarchy and dominant agricultural activities of the time.
