Origin and history

The Château de Ramps is a building located in the commune of Castelnau Montratier-Sainte Alauzie, in the Lot department (46), in the Occitanie region. This monument, whose facades and roofs have been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 24 October 2022, is on Parcel 690, Section C. Although its detailed history is not explicitly documented in the available sources, its recent inscription bears witness to a heritage recognition for its architecture or its local role.

In Quercy, the region to which the Lot belongs, castles and fortified houses have often played a central role in the social and economic organization of rural areas. From the Middle Ages to the modern era, these buildings served as seigneurial residences, protective places or administrative centres for the surrounding populations. Ramps Castle is probably part of this tradition, although current sources do not specify its original function or its evolution over the centuries.
