Origin and history

The Château de Roquecurbe-Minervois, located in the department of Aude in Occitanie region, is a building whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, but whose current structure dates mainly from the eighteenth century. It underwent significant transformations during the first half of the twentieth century, particularly in its interior decorations and chapel. This monument thus illustrates a superimposition of architectural and artistic styles, reflecting the aesthetic and cultural evolutions of these periods.

The chapel of the castle, whose decoration was made at the end of the eighteenth century, was enriched in 1925 by Henri-Justin Marrey, a pupil painter of Maurice Denis. The latter helped to complete the artistic elements of the chapel, adding a modern touch to an ensemble already marked by the legacy of previous centuries. The interiors of the castle are distinguished by painted canvases and panoramic wallpapers of the eighteenth century, testifying to the refinement of the period.

The castle was partially listed as historical monuments in 2005. This protection includes the chapel in its entirety, the facades and roofs of the castle, as well as some interior rooms remarkable for their decorations. In addition, the castle and its chapel have been listed as natural sites since 1942, highlighting their historical and landscape importance in the region.
