Facades and roofs (Box B 445, 739): inscription by order of 7 June 1990
Origin and history
The castle of Saint-Ferréol, located in Pont-de-Barret in the Drôme, is a building of the early seventeenth century. It consists of a main house body flanked by two wings in return of square, delimiting an inner courtyard. The eastern part may correspond to an earlier construction, some of which date from the 16th century, although the present structure is mostly from the 17th century.
The interior distribution has been radically redesigned over the centuries, but some rooms still retain their fireplaces and decorations from the 18th century. These elements reflect the architectural changes and the successive adaptations of the building. The castle was partially protected by an inscription to the Historical Monuments on 7 June 1990, covering its facades and roofs.
The monument illustrates the noble residential architecture of the region in modern times, with an inner courtyard typical of seigneurial residences. Although its detailed history and original owners are not mentioned in the available sources, its plan and its preserved elements offer an overview of the lifestyles and aesthetic tastes of the 17th and 18th centuries in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
