Origin and history

The Château de Saint-Mars-de-Coutais is an emblematic 15th-century building located in the commune of Saint-Mars-de-Coutais in the Loire-Atlantique region. This monument, inscribed in historical monuments since 1982, illustrates the residential architecture of this period in Pays de la Loire. Its history is marked by successions of noble families, whose traces remain in the local archives.

The estate successively belonged to several aristocratic lines, including the Fouché families, Boux de Casson (from 1694 to 1793), Monti de Rezé, and then Lorgeril by inheritance. These changes in ownership reflect the social and economic dynamics of the region, particularly under the Old Regime. The inscription of facades and roofs in 1982 allowed to preserve this heritage, today still visible rue du Château.

Located at 43 Rue du Château, the site retains protected architectural elements, such as facades and roofs, identified under the cadastral reference AB 4. Although sources mention an approximate location (estimated at 5/10), the castle remains a local historical landmark. Its past role, probably linked to seigneurial or agricultural management, is part of the Loire-Atlantique castle landscape.

The available data (Wikipedia, Monumentum) underline its heritage importance, but leave some shaded areas, such as the precise uses of the castle over the centuries or the details of its initial construction. The lack of information on its current accessibility (visits, rentals) invites further research for potential visitors.
