Origin and history
The Château de Saint-Pierre-du-Jonquet was built in the middle of the eighteenth century for the Honfleurese shipowner Leroi-Beaulieu. This monument, classified and inscribed in the Historical Monuments, is distinguished by the integral preservation of its original interior decorations: fireplaces, panelling, pavements and 18th century ceilings. Architecture and amenities reflect the refined taste of the time, typical of Norman bourgeois residences.
The billiard room, the only addition of the 19th century, houses an exceptional wallpaper dated 1818, produced by the Dufour manufacture. This decoration represents the Greek Festivals and Olympic Games, a rare testimony of the wall art of this period. The castle, with its honorary courtyard, gardens and ditches, was registered in 1995, while the billiard room and its decor were classified in 1996 for their heritage value.
The estate opens to the public in July and August, offering guided tours of its interior and exterior. The Heritage Days also provide access. The location, noted as satisfactory (precision 7/10), places the castle at 14670 Saint-Pierre-du-Jonquet, in the department of Calvados, in the Normandy region.
