Origin and history

The castle of Tartigny, located in the Oise region of Hauts-de-France, finds its origins in the middle of the sixteenth century, when Hugues de Laval-Tartigny, son of Marie de Bussu and René II de Laval, began its construction. This Renaissance castle, marked by composite pilasters and a 25-metre cylindrical turret, remained in the Laval family for a century before being acquired in 1674 by Pierre Trudaine, treasurer of France. The property then traverses the generations via matrimonial alliances, passing from Trudaine to Lamoureux, then to Lancry, before being sold in 1781 to Pierre Cavé d'Haudicourt, whose descendants, including Baudus' family, still own it today.

In the 19th century, the castle underwent major changes: the roofs were rectified, neo-Gothic skylights added, and the facades covered with a creped with false joints. Despite these modifications, the western wing retains Renaissance elements, such as metopes and salient tables. The estate also includes an octagonal dovecote (16th-15th century) in torchi and a 19th century circular vegetable garden, rare in the north of France, enclosed with bricks. These elements, together with the turret and the pavilion, have been listed as historical monuments since 1998.

The interior reveals a 16th-century kitchen with a monumental fireplace and a central monocylindrical pile, while the living rooms have woodwork and neo-Louis XVI stucco dating from the Second Empire. The park and the vegetable garden, accessible during Heritage Days, testify to the architectural and landscape evolution of the site, mixing Renaissance heritage and 19th century transformations. The castle thus illustrates the history of the noble and bourgeois families of the Oise, from the Renaissance to the contemporary era.
