Origin and history
The castle of Tilloy-lès-Conty is a historical monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of the Somme (Hauts-de-France). Built on the edge of the 18th and 19th centuries, it embodies the aristocratic residential architecture of this pivotal period, marked by the transition between the Old Regime and the Industrial Revolution. Its location in a rural village of Picardie reflects the importance of secondary residences for local elites.
Originally, this estate was a fief belonging to the lords of Croy, a noble family whose influence extended over several regions of northern France. At the end of the 18th century or at the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was converted into a country house, illustrating the evolution of the lifestyles of the post-revolutionary aristocracy. The facades, the roofs, and the park were protected by an inscription as Historic Monuments in 2004, highlighting their heritage value.
The site also includes a remarkable entrance hall, with its stairs and steps, characteristic of the bourgeois mansions of the era. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), its official registration attests to its importance in the regional heritage. The location, Place de la Liberté in Tilloy-lès-Conty, makes it a central landmark in the local urban landscape.
