Origin and history

The Château de Vaux, located on the town of Miré (Maine-et-Loire), was built between 1464 and 1468 by Jean Bourré, before his other achievements such as the castles of Jarzé and Plessis-Bourré. This first building, typical of the 15th century, fell into ruins in the middle of the 20th century, reflecting a gradual abandonment before its rebirth.

A complete restoration, carried out from 1988 to 2012, restored the castle's brilliance. This ambitious project was rewarded with the VMF Regional Prize, highlighting the quality of the work. The building had already been classified as historic monuments in 1977, recognizing its heritage value.

The castle of Vaux illustrates the architectural heritage of Jean Bourré, a major figure in the castral construction in Anjou at the end of the Middle Ages. Its location, 3.5 km northwest of Miré in the direction of Bierné, makes it a historical landmark in the Ligerian landscape. Today, he embodies both a witness to the medieval past and a successful example of heritage preservation.
