Origin and history

The Château de Villaines-en-Duesmois, called des Anglires, is an emblematic monument located in the Côte-d'Or department, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Reconstructed in 1605 on a 13th century structure, it illustrates the transition between medieval architecture and the Renaissance. Its stones come partly from the use of the nearby ducal castle, demonstrating a strategic reuse of materials.

The Renaissance facade, framed by two slightly raised square towers, is one of the most prominent elements of the castle. It was partly listed as a historical monument in 1970, especially for its facades, roofs, and an old stable. Its large interior staircase, adorned fireplaces and dining room are among the protected elements.

Although private property not open to the public, the castle retains a significant heritage value. Its inclusion in the inventory of historical monuments underlines its architectural importance and its anchoring in the local history of Châtillonnais, a region rich in castral heritage.
