Origin and history

Villemorant Castle is a 19th-century building located in the municipality of Neung-sur-Beuvron, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Built by a rich landowner, it illustrates the bourgeois residential architecture of this period, typical of the French countryside.

In 1972, the castle was bought by Jean-Bedel Bokassa, then President of the Central African Republic. This change of ownership marks a unique step in its history, linking the monument to an international political figure.

Since 1993, the castle and its 23 hectares of park belong to four local communes: Neung-sur-Beuvron, Millançay, Montrieux-en-Sologne and Vernou-en-Sologne. Their acquisition was intended to boost the regional economy. Today, it houses the headquarters of the community of communes, confirming its central role in the territory.
