Origin and history
The Château de Villers-en-Arthies, located in Val-d Although the details of this first construction remain unclear, the site attests to an ancient occupation, reinvested by a classic architecture characteristic of the modern era. Subsequent transformations, notably in the fourth quarter of the eighteenth century, reflect the evolution of aristocratic tastes and the integration of landscaped gardens, typical of noble residences in the Paris region.
In 1790, Count Alexander de Villers erected in the castle park a small neoclassical temple, called Temple of True Happiness, in homage to his late wife. This monument, both a garden and a memorial tomb, is distinguished by its Tuscan portico and its modest dimensions. It illustrates the fashion of 18th century architectural follies, where art, memory and nature intertwine to create places of contemplation and contemplation.
Partially classified as historical monuments (facades and roofs in 1945, temple in 1999), the estate today embodies a hybrid heritage, mixing seigneurial residence and romantic symbol. The inscription of the temple, almost two centuries after its construction, highlights its historical and artistic value, as well as the persistence of its emotional narrative in the cultural landscape of francilian.
