Façades and roofs of the castle and the dovecote; staircase with wooden ramp. (cad. B 440) : entry by order of 2 June 1976

Origin and history

The castle of Willeman, located in the eponymous commune of the department of Pas-de-Calais, is an iconic 18th-century building. This monument, whose facades and roofs are classified, reflects the civil architecture of this period in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, now integrated with the Hauts-de-France. Its dovecote and wooden staircase, with a characteristic ramp, bear witness to the constructive techniques and domestic uses of the period.

Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 2 June 1976, the castle of Willeman sees its remarkable elements (facades, roofs, stairs) protected for their heritage value. The accuracy of its location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" in the databases, allows to identify its exact address: 5031 Le Château, in Willeman. This ranking is part of an approach to preserving the rural and aristocratic heritage of the region.

The site, referred to in the Merimée database under the code Insee 62890, is administratively owned by the Arras district. Although the practical information (visits, services) is not detailed in the available sources, its status as a Historic Monument makes it a place of interest for the study of 18th century seigneurial habitat in the north of France. The data comes mainly from the Monumentum platform and associated internal archives.
