Origin and history
The Pigeonier des Pradeaux, located in Saint-Beauzire in Puy-de-Dôme, is a listed historical monument built at the end of the seventeenth century. This dovecote on stilts perfectly illustrates the rural architecture of the Limagne, with its four poles supporting a square structure in torchi and half-timbers, surmounted by a four-slope roof and a pointed lantern.
This type of work, widespread in the agricultural areas of the region, served both as a food reserve (pigeons were a source of meat and fertilizer) and as a symbol of social status for landowners. Its elevation on stilts allowed to protect it from rodents and moisture, while facilitating bird access.
The dovecote of the Pradeaux was included in the inventory of the Historical Monuments by decree of 6 February 1980, thus recognizing its heritage value as a testimony of the agricultural and architectural practices of the modern era in Auvergne. Its approximate location, noted as "passible" (level 5/10), suggests preservation in a still partially identifiable rural setting.
