Origin and history

Château des Raspaud, located in Colomiers en Haute-Garonne, has its origins in the early 15th century. Originally built as a fortified residence, it was almost entirely destroyed during the conflicts between the Armagnacs and Bourguignons, reflecting the political tensions of this troubled era. These quarrels, marked by moving alliances and local violence, left the estate in ruins until its reconstruction.

In 1530, three brothers of the Raspaud family — Bertrand, Jean and Bernard — undertook to rebuild the castle, giving it a new look adapted to the Renaissance. The monument remained in the hands of this line until the end of the seventeenth century, during which time it embodied the local power and influence of this family. Its architecture, although modified over the centuries, preserved traces of its medieval past while integrating more modern elements.

In the 18th century, the castle changed its owners, passing successively to the Sède and Vignes families. These transitions reflected the social and economic changes in Occitania, where marriage alliances and inheritances were regularly redrawing the land ownership map. Despite these changes, the castle remained a noble residence until its decline.

The 20th century marked the final end of the Raspaud castle: demolished in 1963 for reasons not specified in the sources, it remains today only its entrance gate, erected in the 17th century. This vestige, a silent witness of five centuries of history, recalls the past importance of this place in the columérin landscape and regional memory.
