Origin and history

The Boschet castle, located in Bourg-des-Comptes in Ille-et-Vilaine, was built between 1660 and 1680 by Pierre de Lescouët, Viscount of Boschet and Grand Chamberlain of Philippe d'Orléans, brother of Louis XIV. It replaces a former mansion and fits into a loop of Vilaine. This classic castle is distinguished by its Mansart roof and its four square towers, as well as by a 17th century chapel. His gardens, inspired by the disciples of André Le Nôtre, earned him the nickname of "Breton Versailles". The estate belonged to several influential families, including the Magon de La Gervaisais, the Le Fer de La Gervinais, and Cardinal Brosay-Saint-Marc, the first Archbishop of Rennes.

Ranked a historic monument in 2011, the castle also preserves 18th century communes, organized in U with arcades and original frame. A second work campaign, between 1720 and 1750, enriched the set of wings in return of square, orangery and ordered gardens. The interior houses a monumental staircase in white stone, witness to the fascist of the era. The castle, which was little modified in the 19th century, was sold to private owners in 2022.

The Boschet seigneury was erected in 1608 by Henri IV in favour of Auffrey de Lescoët, president of the Chamber of Accounts of Brittany. This place reflects the history of the Breton elites, linked to the court of France and regional institutions. Its architecture and layout illustrate the influence of the Veraillais models in the province, while maintaining local specificities. The castle remains a remarkable example of the Breton aristocratic heritage of the 17th and 18th centuries.
