Origin and history

Le château du Boscol is a 16th-century residence in Héricourt-en-Caux, Seine-Maritime, Normandy. This monument, a private property not open to the public, is distinguished by its typical Cauchoise facades, mixing stone, flint and varnished crucifixes. It has been part of the historical monuments since 1981, especially for its facades, roofs, chapel, dovecote and decorated interior elements.

The castle was built in the 16th century and expanded in the early 17th century by the Normanville family. In the 18th century, Charlotte Desmares de Bellefosse, heir to Boscol, and her husband Charles Hébert de Beauvoir, adviser to the Parliament of Normandy, made changes. A major restoration took place in the 19th century, including the planting of a park with beech alignments around 1865, under the impulse of the son of Admiral de Beauvoir.

Protected elements include the facades and roofs of the castle, chapel and dovecote, as well as the park's fence walls with their booms. Inside, the large living room on the ground floor and two bedrooms on the first floor are also inscribed for their decor. In 1987, the castle belonged to Mrs. Bernard Halliez and the Marquis de Beauvoir, highlighting its transmission among Norman aristocratic families.

The castle of Boscol illustrates the architectural and landscape evolution of seigneurial residences in Pays de Caux, between Renaissance and 19th century. Its park, its stone and flint facades, and its history related to the Normandy Parliament make it a remarkable testimony of the Cauchese heritage. The 1981 partial protection aims to preserve these emblematic features.
