Origin and history

The château du Thoult is a 17th century monument located in the village of Le Thoult-Trosnay, in the department of Marne, in the Grand Est region. The building, partially listed as historical monuments in 1988, is distinguished by its architecture divided into two parts: an old section with a tower, and a farm transformed into a U-shaped property, topped by a bell tower. This castle played a historic role in welcoming personalities such as Blanche de Navarre and Thibault de Champagne, who stayed there at different times.

The Thoult Castle is associated with two outstanding figures in medieval and reborn history. Blanche de Navarre, queen of France and Navarre, made a visit there, while Thibault de Champagne, Count of Champagne and king of Navarre, lived there during his youth. These links with the nobility of the time underline the strategic and social importance of the place. Today, the castle consists of two distinct sets: the historical part with its iconic tower, and an old farm renovated into a large property.

The partial listing of the castle as historical monuments, by order of 26 August 1988, bears witness to its heritage value. This protection concerns in particular the oldest elements of the site, including the tower, symbol of its past. The castle thus illustrates the architectural and historical evolution of the region, between medieval heritage and subsequent transformations.
