Origin and history
Château du Touvent, located in the town of Châteauroux (Indre), dates from the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Its chapel, dedicated to Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, was built in 1855 and is distinguished by its modest dimensions and its traditional orientation. It adopts a simple plan: a single vessel of five spans, bordered by narrow sides, and ends with an apse in hemicycle. Its eclectic architecture, marked by a sculpted decoration of great finesse, reflects the pronounced taste for the characteristic detail of the era.
The interior decoration of the chapel is the work of two renowned Parisian artists: Alexandre Denuelle and Eugène-Stanislas Oudinot. Their intervention gives the building a preserved ornamental richness, including a complete original furniture (altar, marble paving, pulpit, altarpiece). This furniture, still in place, bears witness to the stylistic unit desired by sponsors and artisans.
The Notre-Dame-des-Victoires chapel was listed as historic monuments by order of 18 March 2014, recognizing its heritage value. The castle and its chapel are now managed by the Indre department, as part of the Remarkable Contemporary Architecture label (associated with the Touvent castle and the Sainte-Blanche chapel). The architect Aymar Verdier is mentioned as the project manager, although his exact role in the design of the chapel is not detailed in the sources.
The site maintains an approximate location (12 Route de Velles, Châteauroux), with cartographic accuracy considered to be satisfactory (note 6/10). The protected elements are limited to the entire chapel, identified with the cadastre under plot BZ 66.
