Origin and history

The castle of Buzignangues, located on the river, dominates a ford, suggesting an earlier strategic occupation. Its construction, initiated in the first half of the seventeenth century by the lords of Guilleminet, incorporates remains like a scauguette in corbellation on the east wall. This choice reflects a desire to mark the territory with a building both residential and symbolically defensive, despite the archaism of its H-massed plan for the time.

The castle is distinguished by pavilions in squares flanking a central body, a rare arrangement that reinforces its seigneurial character. Dry ditches, a false break over the entrance and murderers recall a defensive, though symbolic vocation. Inside, a large central room has a painted ceiling, while the East lounge retains an 18th century decor, with a Louis XV fireplace and wall paintings in the oratory (antique columns and trompe-l'oeil).

Ranked Historic Monument in 2010, the castle includes its gardens and terraces in protection. The transformations of the crosses (XVIII–XIXth centuries) and the disappearance of the dovecote bear witness to its evolution. Its official address (101 rue de la Benovia) contrasts with an approximate GPS location (45 Place de l'Eglise), reflecting geographical uncertainties in available sources.
