Origin and history

Château Montlaur is an emblematic building in the commune of Poussan, Occitanie region. Although the available sources remain limited, its membership in the medieval period makes it a witness to the local dynamics of this period, marked by feudality and the organization of territories around strong places. In the Middle Ages, castles like Montlaur played a central role in the lives of surrounding communities.

They served as both a refuge, a symbol of seigneurial power and a pivot for agricultural and artisanal activities. In a region such as Occitanie, these structures also reflected the varied cultural and political influences between the kingdoms of France and Aragon, as well as the Mediterranean exchanges.
