Origin and history

Château Rauzan-Ségla is a wine estate located in Margaux en Gironde, ranked second in the Bordeaux wine classification of 1855. Its origin dates back to 1661, when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan acquired the noble house of Gasses. In the 18th century, the estate was divided into Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla, the latter taking the name Catherine de Rauzan, wife of Baron Pierre Louis de Ségla in 1785. At that time, the castle still resembles a cartreuse, as illustrated by an illustration of 1835.

In 1903, Frédéric Cruse took over the estate and entrusted the architect Louis Garros with the renovation of the buildings between 1904 and 1906. An observatory tower was added between 1919 and 1920 by Alexandre Garros, son of Louis. These works transform the castle by giving it its present appearance, marked by a typical architecture of the early twentieth century.

In 1994, the estate was purchased by the Wertheimer family, owner of Chanel House. In 2011, to celebrate its 350th anniversary, designer Karl Lagerfeld drew the 2009 vintage label. The vineyard, with an area of 66 hectares, is partially converted to organic farming from 2010, reflecting modernisation while preserving its historical heritage.
