Origin and history
The Château Saint-Georges is a 45-hectare wine estate located in Montagne, Gironde, in the heart of the appellation Saint-Georges-saint-emilion. Its architecture combines feudal elements, like its four towers, with a neoclassical facade designed by Victor Louis, the architect of the Grand Theatre of Bordeaux. The wrought iron gates of the estate have been published, highlighting their heritage value.
Since 1891, the castle has belonged to the Desbois family, which has managed it for more than a century. In 2013, Jean-Philippe Janoueix joined the property as co-owner, before becoming the manager in October 2015. This change marks an evolution in the direction of the wine sector, while continuing its family heritage.
The terroir of the Château Saint-Georges is based on argilo-calcar soils, ideal for the cultivation of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Wine-growing practices, such as manual harvesting and lack of irrigation, reflect a traditional and qualitative approach. The estate produces three distinct wines, including a great eponymous wine, strengthening its reputation in Bordeaux vineyards.
